I have been so busy and been trying to cut back on my computer time that this blog has been totally neglected. It's not like anyone really follows me here, anyway. ;o)
For now, just pleasepleaseplease use these sites/blogs for your food storage/emergency preparedness needs. They are so great and are so helpful!
Fun with Food Storage - This is your one-stop-shopping site for everything food storage related, and all the women that run the blogs below got together and all contribute to Fun with Food Storage. So great!
Food Storage Made Easy helps you baby step your way through getting started with your food storage. It is such a daunting task, and these two women have done a great job breaking it down so it's not so overwhelming.
The Obsessive Shopper - how to buy your food storage at a fraction of the cost using coupons. Her program is AWESOME!
Everyday Food Storage - learn how to use your food storage here. Crystal is a genious at all of this! I love her recipe for pizza crust/30 minute breadsticks. It is the best ever. She has a new book out, too, her first of probably many that teach you how to use your food storage. This site ROCKS!
Maybe I'll get back at this again, but really, for now, please subscribe to these websites/blogs or check back frequently and things will be so much easier for you!

Water jugs
Below are my 5-gallon water jugs. Excuse the mess in the background...our living room is under construction. I just have to sterilize them and fill them. I am keeping the white ones downstairs and the blue ones upstairs. I read it's a good idea to not put all of your water in one spot down in the basement, because in the event of an earthquake you might not be able to get downstairs to your water. The same is probably true for emergency kits. I have mine downstairs, but I should probably relocate it.
I purchased these jugs from Shelf Reliance when they were on sale. Right now the blue ones are $14.99, and the white ones are $9.99.
If you live in Utah, Macey's grocery store is have a great sale on their emergency preparedness items, from water jugs and drums to powdered milk and other dried foods. The sale lasts through January 27th. Their white water storage containers are only $3.99!
If you stop by there, let me know what you get! I'm heading tomorrow and I'll post what I bought.

Shelf Reliance Sale and water
I was online at Shelf Reliance today to buy some wing stoves for our 72 hour kits and noticed they have alot of items on sale right now. I wanted to pass this along to you in case you need some items, they might be on sale for you, too! The wing stove comes with a 3-pack of fuel, too, for $4.37 on sale (regular $4.86).
I bought a couple of these and these for water storage. Of course, this isn't wise in the event you have to evacuate your home, so I intend to start buying more 2 liters of pop to start storing my water in, or something. I'll probably go to the $1 store. Don't they sell pop there? I also realized (thanks to the website's suggestions) that I needed something to purify the water and bought these drops. Remember, we should be storing 2 gallons PER person PER day for washing, cooking, and drinking. Children and women who are pregnant or breastfeeding need more. I think it would be wise to store 4 days worth of water in your home in the liter bottles or gallon jugs.
REMEMBER - do NOT use old milk jugs to store water, or anything that ever contained food or chemicals. It doesn't matter how well you wash them out, they can still contaminate your water. You can wash and rinse out milk jugs and fill with water to use as flushing water for the toilet, but be sure to label those jugs well, something like, "DO NOT DRINK! TOILET WATER ONLY!" That should stop someone dead in their tracks.
I have more to update with the things I've been doing the last couple of days to get organized, but I'll have to do that later.

I'm baaack!
I left you all (maybe 3 of you? LOL) back in October, didn't I? That seems like ages ago. Well, I have been having a recurring dream where our family is caught in a natural disaster and has to evacuate our home for safety or because it's demolished, and we realize we have no water to drink and very little food. I think I'm being reminded of vital counsel members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints have been given, as well as things our government leaders have started warning us about, like pandemic flu.
I am coming back to this blog, and my goal for 2009 is to get my home and family totally prepared. I might not be able to complete it all, but 12 months/52 weeks is a long time and a lot can get accomplished.
First on my list is, as it was back in October, water storage. Today I am going to be going back through those handy links from the previous posts below about water storage and make my game plan over the next couple of days. When I have my plan figured out, I'll post it. If you are going to go along this journey with me (and I won't leave you high-and-dry again, at least not on purpose and not without a fight) then let me know if you have any thoughts you want to share. I'd be glad to post others' ideas, findings, and adventures.
Well, I'm ready to get going. How about you?

More water resources
I found some more great information on water storage. These are all links, so click away!
Captain Dave's Survival Shop Water Storage Guide
beprepared.com - great information, as well as supplies. I'm not sure how they compare as far as pricing goes, but it's nice to get a visual on those 55-gallon barrels!
